Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember arching your neck to see the pictures in the book your teacher read to the class? What about everyone crowding around in front of you to watch an experiment? In today's classrooms there are 30-40 students in one room. An Elmo machine makes everyone being able to see possible.

I teach in a low socioeconomic minority school at a 6th grade middle school.

Most of my students are second language learners and read at a 2nd - 4th grade level. Many of them come from single parent homes and do not have computers at home. I try to integrate technology into my teaching and their learning as often as I can. They are very sweet kids who try very hard.

My Project

I currently have a class of 30 in a room that makes it a bit difficult for all the kids to see the board well. Not just the board. Sometimes I have small diagrams or posters or pictures to show them and I can't always walk around to each child and point at what I want them to look at. I've since noticed that some teachers at other schools have and use visual presenters called Elmo's that capture and project on the wall the image of whatever the teacher places underneath the lens. It also has the ability to zoom so that the kids can see a picture or a diagram projected very clearly on the wall. The Elmo works together with a projector. I have access to a projector I can use at my school, so I only need an ELMO. We need an Elmo Visual Presenter so they can they can see large zoomed in views of specific diagrams, models, websites, books, images, etc. during my lessons.

My students would really benefit from having an Elmo in the class.

With all the budget cuts and increased class sizes, we have to find ways to make learning accessible to all children. Not being able to see because there are too many people in the class or because everyone is crowded in front of you during demonstrations is not acceptable. It encourages kids to withdraw from what's happening in the class. An Elmo would help make learning accessible to all of my students. Please help us.
