My Students

"Hear me speak." My students face the challenge of getting their voices heard with each waking moment.

My students are a fun-loving group of children who are mysterious in nature and independently consumed by heart.

They have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, which impacts normal development ranging from mild to severe. The areas effected most by this disorder are social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication, and behavior with objects and others. They range in age from 6 to 8 years old. The children are and extension of families in search of answers to the impairments their children posses and do not often have the funds or wherewithal to get their needs met. The school is part of a district that is lacking in funds,resources, and technology.

My Project

Providing a computer with educational software into the hands of my students opens up a whole new world of opportunity for them to learn. The computer and computer based programs are engaging to my students because they permit multiple modalities for learning. They will be able to receive both visual and auditory instruction when they see images on the screen and hear different sounds and speech. These items will promote increased student motivation, instant gratification, a level of expectation, and repeated practice skills which builds concepts and knowledge into long-term memory. There are a variety of skills that can be targeted by including technology into our classroom. Our goals will focus on vocabulary, symbol recognition, written word identification and naming emotions.

Computer-assisted instruction provides additional education and treatment options that my students greatly need and appreciate.

Offering my students a voice with this computer and software will not only extend their world but give them wings to fly around the it. Thank you in advance for your consideration of funding this project.
