Write Young Writers!!!

My students need 16 writing supplies, including construction paper, storybook paper, folders, pink erasers, crayons and pencils.

My Students

When students write from their imagination, words come to life in mini-books, short stories, or fully illustrated books. My students need constant opportunity to write out their feelings, create fantasy stories or create nonfiction books.

I have 18 first grade students who attend a public Title I school in an urban area.

All of my students receive free lunch. They lack writing and literacy experiences at home. Young students need print rich environments around them and often lack these experiences.

My Project

I have created a writing center in my classroom, where students get thirty minutes a day of free writing time. I have begun providing writer's craft techniques for them so that their writing may be prompted by various authors' ideas. In this writing center, students make their own books and develop their own stories. My students are learning to write down their ideas, how to become imaginative in their thought process, and how to develop the mechanics and composition of their writing. These supplies will give my students further opportunities to create new writing pieces and make them their own. The resources I am requesting include various colors of construction paper, primary writing paper, pencils, pink erasers, new crayons for illustrating and pocket folders for students to contain all their writing work.

Students who do not have the opportunity to write daily often have difficulty composing as they grow up.

Writing is the key component to expressing ideas and developing knowledge. They need support in brainstorming, drafting, revising and publishing. We always want our students to develop their creativity in their own way and these materials will support that. I hope that each year, a stocked writing center will help my students develop their skills and improve their attitude and confidence!
