My Students

Close your eyes and imagine sitting on the rug with your classmates and having to look across the room at a chalk board that is hard to see, or a small dry erase board that can't fit more than a sentence or two.

I teach first grade in a high poverty area in Michigan.

My students look forward to coming to school because it is often the most consistent thing in their life. They are eager to learn, and they get excited when it is time to write. They love to express themselves.

My Project

By receiving the easel, my students will be able to write and edit stories using the dry erase board. They will be able to use magnetic words and letters to create poems, stories, and to do word work. The easel also holds big books and chart paper. They will be able to easily see the words and pictures when I am reading a big book to them. This easel will also be able to be used for future classes.

This project is important to me because I believe my students deserve to be able to participate in learning about the writing process.

We need to be able to create and edit stories together.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
