Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Organization truly is key! With 26 young students, it is very important for everything in our room to have it's place, in order for the day to run smoothly!

I teach 26 amazing four-year-old students.

Our urban school has a dual-language program, with children receiving instruction in both English and Spanish. Some of my students speak English at home, and are learning Spanish as their second language. Other students speak Spanish at home, and are learning English as their second language. The best part is that they all learn together, in the same room, from and with each other. They are all truly proud to be bilingual, multicultural learners.

My Project

Literacy is a key component to our program, and I have the job of reinforcing literacy skills in both English and Spanish for all of my students. The best way to reach my students is to work with them in small groups, while other students work with partners or independently on literacy activities. In order for their partner and independent work to function, they need to understand exactly what they are able to use, how to find it, and how to clean it up and store it when they are finished. Currently, we have one basic shelf to store our literacy materials, where everything is haphazardly stacked, and there is no real organization. We need a functional shelf that can store materials in individual containers and is more user-friendly for the students.

While something as simple as a shelf may seem unimportant, the organization that it brings is essential for helping the classroom run smoothly every day.

Your donation will bring us one step closer to achieving that organization, which, once achieved, will allow me more time to spend working with students and less time guiding material use.
