This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember when you curled up with a great Nancy Drew novel and could not wait until the next installment? What about reading the Baby-sitter's Club with your girlfriends and being able to relate to their problems? Wouldn't it be awesome for this generation to have those moments you cherish?

I teach in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood with 100% of my students receiving free lunch.

My students are vibrant and energetic. They come to school with curiosity and motivation to take on the day's challenges. They enjoy to read and go on adventures through their novels.

My Project

For some of my students, the only exposure to a library that some of my students have is my library and I would like them to have a variety to choose from. My students love comic books. There are book sets that are called graphic novels. Graphic novels are written and drawn like comic books, but they are considered novels. My girls enjoy the couple that we have, but I know that more students would read for leisure if I had more to offer. In getting these novels, my students would be motivated to read. They have wonderful pictures and the story lines are intriguing. Comic books have always had a wide market for boys. The "Nancy Drew " Series and the "The Baby-Sitter's Club" are targeted towards girls. This is a wonderful way to get my girls into graphic novels by appealing to their female topics and "comic-like" appearance.

I would like my students to have access to the new reading material that is out there.

This is a perfect example. Reading is supposed to be fun. The "Nancy Drew" Series and "The Baby-Sitter's Club" Series was popular back in its day. Now it is making a come back in the graphic novels format. Please help this generation enjoy that series as much as you did when you were a kid.
