My Students

Can you remember how awkward you felt in middle school, how your body and voice changed over night, how you had to make new friends and learn how to open a locker and switch classes throughout the day?

My school has over 550 students who come from varied back grounds but in a low economic neighborhood.

Students come with the weight of the world on their shoulders and for a few hours everyday they can escape to the world of school and my goal is to make a safe a secure environment for every student to learn and feel like learning is great!

My Project

With the resource of a new couch and magnets my students will have an opportunity to have group discussions in a relaxed environment, discuss pertinent issues that involve student achievement, home involvement, girls' concerns in girl groups and boys' concerns in boy groups. The magnets will be used to display student writing and pictures that encourage student involvement around the school.

This project should be funded and why it's so important to me and my students because I can remember how awkward I felt in middle school and how safe and secure I always felt going to the guidance office and having a place for a few minutes everyday I could speak to someone about my feelings....and there was always a comfy couch!

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
