My Students

My students deserve to walk into a classroom that is engaging and interesting and full of information that can help them prepare for college. I need materials to help students create a check list to read, edit, proof read and read for understanding.

We are a typical inner city school, filled with students that come from all over the city.

At 88% free and reduced lunch, some of our kids come from poor neighborhoods that are often decorated with fast food boxes all over the ground and abandoned buildings. They are a wonderful group of kids and we need them to be in a classroom that prepares them for college. Like most inner city high schools, there isn't a budget for any materials to make bleak white walls inviting and print rich. When inner city students walk into a classroom with content related posters and tips for reading and writing, they are more interested in school and better prepared for college rigor when they begin to practice proof reading and editing now.

My Project

When I tell people I am a teacher, they often say "How can you do that?" A better question for me is "How can I NOT do that!" I love being a teacher, I love making a difference, and how kids feel when they sit in my class, matters. Having the posters and the editing prompts will help my students improve as writers and researchers. When students have to do research papers, journaling and short answers, these English centered posters will be helpful in reminding students the steps to good writing. These posters help students thinking about theme, setting and reasons for reading. We can use these posters daily in our reading and writing. The posters of Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, Egyptian Mummy and the Medieval Knights will accent and illustrate key themes in American History. These images will add a visual impact to my world and American history classes to start discussions and help students think about the writing process and get the skills needed to get ready for college.

Making the classroom print rich and full of tools to help students become better writers is really a precious gift!

Writing is one of the most important components of a college education.
