Improving Learning By Improving Technology In Our Classrooms

My students need an Acer computer, learning skills software, a printer, music CDs, and a CD player.

My Students

Our Pre-K students can't use the computer daily because there is only one computer for the whole class. There's not a printer to print their work! Also, we don't have software to support their learning. When music time comes our students can't dance because we don't have a CD player.

Our Pre-K students come from low income families.

Their parents can't afford any type of technology at home to support their learning. I am trying to use every resource to help and prepare our students to succeed academically. We all attend an urban school where the technology supplies are limited. Our students come every day to school eager to learn, and I am trying to keep that hope up! Our students deserve to dance,sing, and listen children music daily. They deserve to learn how to use computers, software, and be proud by printing their work daily,too. My goal is to make my students smile, happy, and successful. Sincerely, Mrs. B.

My Project

If my students will receive the computer with the different supportive software, and the CD player, we'll see a significant developmental gains in several skills, such as: nonverbal skills, letter knowledge skills, number knowledge skills, color and shape knowledge skills, verbal skills, problem solving, abstraction, and conceptual skills. These skills will match the teaching objectives that I use from the Early Childhood Standards. The benefits of providing computers to our Pre-k students depend on how frequently they have access to computers. Currently, only 4 students use one computer daily for 15 minutes. If all of them can use the technology daily, they will improve and increase their math skills, reading skills, long-term memory, motor skills, and creativity. In the future the technology will help them increase scores on tests of critical thinking and problem solving.

I really believe that increasing technology in our class, will help our students perform better academically.

Our students come from low income families. Their parents struggle to meet their basic needs such as food, clothing, and housing. In our class we are struggling to meet the basic needs such as: computers, software, a printer, and a CD player. These materials will help our students succeed in the future and develop a great respect for education. Thank you for your generosity!!! Mrs. B.
