My Students

My students have caught the reading bug. Four of our favorite authors are Helen Lester (Tacky books), Robert Munsch, Jan Brett, and Jane O'Conner (Fancy Nancy). I am always trying to find more books from these authors to bring in and read for our author studies.

I teach at a Title One school where 90% of my students are on free or reduced lunch.

I also have a high population of boys in my classroom this year. They enjoy reading funny books and have really gotten into reading Robert Munsch and Helen Lester (Tacky the Penguin) books, as well as books by the other two authors.

My Project

Some of our favorite authors are Robert Munsch, Helen Lester, Jan Brett and Jane O'Conner (Fancy Nancy books). In our classroom we have done author studies on these authors. Author studies helps get the children excited about different authors. They in turn go to the library to check out books by these authors. However, we have worked our way through all of the books that our media center has to offer by these particular authors. They can't get enough of these books. The students in my class decided that they would like to have more books by these authors in our classroom and asked if we could do a DonorsChoose to purchase some new books. They decided which authors and which books to put into our shopping cart. They can read the books with a partner or by themselves and they could also take them home as a take-home reader to read to their parents.

By purchasing the books by these authors you would be helping my students continue to develop a love for reading.

They get so excited about reading books by these authors and have hand-picked out these books for our classroom themselves. Funding this proposal would make them so excited!
