My Students

Students are challenged by math, but who isn't! "Do not worry about your problems with mathematics, I assure you mine are far greater." - Albert Einstein. If this is how he felt about math, imagine how an English Language Learner or a student with a learning disability feels about math.

My students are a dynamic, energetic group!

They learn mathematics by completing hand-ons activities and by visualizing math. Our high-needs school is in an urban setting with a diverse population of students with diverse needs for learning. Many of our students face many challenges both inside and outside of school. However, we are a college-preparatory public school that requires all students to be accepted into college in order to graduate high school. With these high standards and a college-bound mentality, students need to have access to visual learning and technology.

My Project

Our students are stimulated by direct contact with mathematics concepts. Graphing calculators will provide my students with the means to see and study important functions in Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. Instead of teaching my students to trends of graphs, they can learn by calculating and graphing themselves. Graphing calculators will engage my students by giving them the power to control technology and their own learning.

This is important because college-bound students need to be active learners with access to technology.

In order for my students to learn visually and be successful in college, students need to have the technology required in college. Further, these calculators will be used by all 80 of my students daily, each year for many years to come. Your impact will be great and far-reaching!
