My Students

"There is no substitute for books in the life of a child." (1952)~ Mary Ellen Chase ~ Adding non-fiction books to our room will open many doors, and allow children to experience the world through text.

We are a small, low income rural public school in Minnesota, with a very small budget allowance for school supplies.

Each year, teachers are allowed $100 to spend for the year! Needless to say, adding a new set books to our classroom is not an option.

My Project

These new, nonfiction books will be used in guided reading, silent reading, science, social studies and more. Research states that a classroom library should be about 85% non-fiction. The students will gain a wealth of information having this non-fiction library in our room. Who knows what just one book might inspire a child to do. After all, our children are our future!~

Getting a set of new books in our room would be like passing out a present on Christmas.

You can be that person, that Santa, who brings a smile to a child's face, and awe when they hold that book and learn exciting, new information.
