My Students

Let's go to the lab to practice our stoichiometry skills! Difficult concepts in chemistry class come alive for my students in engaging, challenging lab settings. However, putting these skills into practice requires precision, accuracy and very careful analytical work.

I teach chemistry in a large high poverty high school.

My students are mostly 10th graders who hope to attend college. They love labs and hands-on work and get excited about learning every time we go into the lab. I love seeing their faces light up when a concept suddenly becomes clear to them because they have seen the laboratory applications of what they are learning in the classroom.

My Project

High quality labs require precision, accuracy and sharp analytical skills from my students and lab equipment that is adequate to meet the requirements of the lab work. We need balances that will read to two decimal places. These balances support students in labs that require three significant figures to be successful. These analytical balances will allow students more opportunities for labs involving stoichiometry (comparison of reactants and products in chemical reactions), solution chemistry, acid and base chemistry, gas chemistry, and conservation of mass.

An inquisitive spirit and analytical thinking are two traits students need to develop in order to succeed in college.

Problem solving labs in my chemistry classes help promote these traits, and these resources are so important to foster that kind of environment. Thank you very much for your consideration.
