My Students

I teach Visual Arts at a brand new rural area school. My responsibilities include teaching art to Kindergarten through fifth grade students. About sixty percent of our students are from impoverished environments.

My kids are energetic, eager to learn, talkative and most of them enjoy Art.

We are a brand new school, with our school population coming from several different schools. This is a new experience for our students to be at a very structured school for the first time. They need lots of guidance and redirection. They love to work with their hands and art fits right into that category.

My Project

These art prints will introduce my students to many different cultures and artists from different time periods. Art prints help to show the students different styles of art and open their eyes to the many different types of artwork. Seeing and understanding different artists' work is valuable to a student and enables them to develop their own styles in creating art. I use prints to encourage discussion, within small groups and whole class. Students learn new art vocabulary and are able to express their feelings and thoughts about the individual piece of artwork, thus learning how to critique, which is a big part of art.

These prints will be used on a daily basis to introduce my art students to the wonderful world of art and will continue to help teach for many years to come.

I know that you realize the importance of art and how it can boost self esteem, and gives a child the initiative to try new and different things, so help us out!
