Mapping Our Way Through Social Studies

My students need a kit to make their own world maps, a landform and mapping resource box for extra support and landforms and mapping literature.

My Students

Where in the world are we? What is the difference between a country and a continent?

I teach a wonderful bunch of first grade students who come from various backgrounds.

Many of my students are military children and are often moving from one state to another. Although I have a wide variety of students, each and every one of them have a love for learning.

My Project

As a first grade student, it is an important goal to learn geographic concepts. My first grade students need to locate and describe familiar places in the home, classroom, and school, investigate key features of maps, use geographic terminology and tools to create representations of the earth’s physical and human features through simple maps, models, and pictures and explore physical features of continents and major bodies of water. With new literature, my students would be able to find out more information that will allow them to locate different landforms, continents and many other geographic attributes. Students would also be able to have a hands-on representation of the world using the map kit, which will allow them SEE the many places in the world.

With your help and support, you will make it possible for my students to find where they are on the earth, practice making maps, and locate and understand the many other geographical concepts.
