Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

What a better way to get our diverse background fifth graders into English than through poetry?

Believe it or not, but children love to learn. They like to make connections to their current life, and what better way to show them than through a section on poetry. Learning fluency through any type of poem is one way to get these kids involved.

We will need the Evan-Moore "Reading and Understanding Poetry" as a resource for this project. Along with the other 13 poetry books listed for this project (Dr. Seuss to Hip-Hop), the students will continue their journey to meet their 5th grade reading requirements. Also included in this project is a set of 12 books (Blood on the River) that the students will use to increase their reading capacity during Social Studies.

Your contributions to this project will help us inspire our future generations learning. Each contribution does make a difference. Wouldn't it be great to hear our kids reciting Walt Whitman, as well as Shel Silverstein, as they grow up.
