My Students

We want to see the world through the lens of a camera but we have no cameras! Digital cameras would help jump start our study of Photography as an art.

I teach fourth grade to thirty students in southern California.

I teach at a school is small but has a tight knit community. Parents are supportive but most of them are struggling to support their families. More than half of our school population receives free or reduced price lunches. Our school enjoys bringing various types of art to our students but with the budget cuts this year and last, there is very little money available to support these programs. A large population of my students shine when they can participate in art and photography is one art form where all of my students can learn, have fun and feel success.

My Project

I am requesting three digital cameras. I have a wonderful photography curriculum but no materials. These three cameras will allow my students to begin learning about photography through practice. They will be able to try out the concepts they learn by taking their own photographs.

With the increasing pressure of standardized tests and faster paced curriculum, students are working harder than ever to learn Math, Literacy, Science and Social Studies.

But, they also need to experience and be exposed to different art forms too. Art is an area where many students shine their brightest. Receiving digital cameras will allow me to share the fascinating art of Photography with my students this year and for many years to come.
