Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach technology deprived five year-olds at a Title 1 school. My students are considered at risk because of their economic status and limited English speaking abilities.

Unfortunately, our classroom only has one computer for student use. The computer is very slow and out-dated. Students never have enough time to explore websites because the computer will freeze while they browse. The computer lab has not been made available to my students because seniority has been given to older students per our administration.

Three new laptops would give students the opportunity to work together to expand their knowledge in every content area. Each laptop would have prescreened, kid-friendly websites saved on the favorites list to teach them how to identify letters, read new words, solve simple math problems and explore their artistic abilities. I will put up to 3 students at one computer at a time and train them on how to use it properly.

Many of my students do not have computers at home and the neighborhood library has been under construction for the past two years. Your assistance would make it possible for me to teach my students basic computer skills, then advance their skills by getting them familiar with well-known websites that teach children skills they can use now and later on in life.
