My students really need an LCD projector!

Imagine 34 students crowded around one laptop in amazement of Google Earth. This is my classroom! Crowded? Inefficient? If only I had an LCD projector. Can you help? I teach social studies to 130 inner city African American 5th grade students at one of the highest performing middle schools in Maryland. We are a college preparatory charter school, serving kids from 7am to 4pm each day- 28% more school time than typical schools. Even though 87% of our students live in poverty, we strive for excellence despite seriously limited resources!

It is my personal goal to make my students both geographically and technologically literate. I don't have text books and rely on an overhead and paper copies to teach. I've never seen students so interested in geography as when I showed them the places we were studying on Google Earth- on my laptop.

An LCD project would enable me to actually take the whole class! from their seats! from outer space to the places we are studying in class. I could simultaneously teach them about the program, navigating the Internet, and more. We could actually see the earth 3-dimensionally instead of relying on flat maps. Asides from this application, an LCD projector would enable me to move from transparencies to interactive power points, from handouts to white board projections where students solve problems in front of the class.
