I teach at a school where more than 50% of the students come from low-income families. My class is made up of 25 sixth graders.

Due to budget cuts last year, our school was forced to close our library. As a result, my students have been relying on our own class library to meet their reading needs. However, many of the books in my library are torn or out-of-date. As a result, many students have difficulty finding books that suit their interests or books that won't fall apart while they are reading them.

Literacy is the most important component in my teaching. My students are encouraged to become life-long readers. They are taught to read all different types of texts. By updating our class library with fantasies, mysteries, biographies, historical fiction, satires, and award-winning books, the students will have a wide variety of modern books to choose from. A library that offers books in a series enables students to read multiple books from a favorite author or about a character they love.

A love for reading is the best gift a student can discover. Your donation will provide many new and exciting books for my students to explore.
