Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 7th grade special and general education at an underprivileged charter school. Our charter school emphasizes a college preparatory environment through a powerful school culture and curriculum.

Although it is required that I teach a set of academic standards that requires students to have access to project supplies such as rulers, scissors and markers, my school is financially unable to provide our classroom with these basics.

In addition, many of my students' families do not have the resources to contribute to their children's education which too often prevents them from meeting their educational standards. These supplies will not only help my students achieve what most of their community says they can't, but I believe that having these supplies will also show them that someone else out there cares.

I know times are tough for everyone right now, but these essential supplies are just that: essential. They can make a huge difference in my students' lives as they direct their future aspirations toward college. You can make it possible for students to more powerfully interact with the world we live in by giving them the tools they need to succeed.
