My Students

I am a teacher for the Deaf serving student ages Pre-K through 12th Grade. My students use a variety of communication modalities including Auditory Oral/Verbal, Cued Speech, Signed Exact English and American Sign Language.

Most of the students that I serve attend school at their neighborhood schools.

Although attending school with their neighborhood peers is an indicator of my students' level of success, it also means that each of my students are the only one in their school that is deaf.

My Project

Once a year a neighboring county hosts "Deaf Field Day" for students of all ages who are Deaf. This event brings together hundreds of students from all over the state of North Carolina. Here, students have an opportunity to gather, discover that they are not the only one who is deaf and share information with someone who has had like experiences. In order to attend "Deaf Field Day" we need two buses to transport students to and from the event.

My students have many challenges when socializing with hearing and deaf peers.

Deaf Field Day gives my students an opportunity to practice their social skills with other students who also have the same challenges. With your help we can improve how my students interact with the world around them. Thank you for considering us for your donation.
