My Students

Kids today are growing up in a world full of technology. School is irrelevant to them if they don't have a classroom as wired as they are!

I have 50 AP US History students in the 11th grade.

We live in a tourism-based, transient community. Often, school is the most stable thing in their lives. These kids are hard-working. Many of them don't and it is a testament to their determination and drive to succeed that they are in an AP class. All of these students are college-bound, and they should be! These are the smartest, hardest-working kids in school. They have what it takes to go to college and be successful.

My Project

Mac computers have more capability when it comes to multi-media applications. If my students aren't exposed to different computing platforms, they'll be behind when they get to college. This year my students have done role-playing and produced all kinds of live-action historical simulations. However, when it's recorded, it's done. They don't have any power to edit or re-arrange what they've produced. Sometimes, you just can't help but laugh in the middle of a take, or another student interrupts the filming. Instead of starting over, it would be amazing if they could just keep going and edit later.

These kids don't have many advantages.

Your support of this project is essential to broaden their horizons and help them realize that learning is about more than just sitting, reading and listening. Learning is an interactive event and this computer will help me reinforce that lesson in my class!
