We love our school family! I am a pre-k teacher in a small elementary school consisting of about 240 children. The majority of the families in our school are low income. There are 18 children in our class. We give children opportunities to explore and learn through play. We learn about the alphabet through Letterland. We count everything! We try to create a love for books and reading. We rhyme, we build, we talk, and we write. We love to dance and sing. We all have a job in our classroom and we are all important. We teach children to care about one another. Everyone in pre-k (and at our school) is a member of our school family, so we must be take care of one another.

Circle time is one of the most important parts of our day. Every morning we meet at the circle to welcome one another and start our day off on a positive note. We also share things at circle, sing, dance, read books, and play games. Currently we have a circle time rug that is too small and therefore very crowded. When all the children are present or we are dancing they actually have to take a scoot or a step back off the rug so they are not right on top of one another. So if we are sitting and they have to scoot back they are not even sitting on a soft rug anymore. We really need a larger rug to accommodate 18 children and three teachers at circle time.

We need a larger circle time rug. This will allow children to be more comfortable at circle. Having their own personal space on the rug will cut down on distractions and help them to focus in on whatever activity we are doing. This will also allow then to move more freely and express themselves more freely when they are dancing and singing.

Your help will make circle time in my pre-k class a much more comfortable, fun, and effective learning opportunity.
