My Students

When you wake up in the morning can you see the sun shinning? Can you pick up the hot cup of coffee? Are you able to turn on the fan on that hot summer day? My students need to learn how to do these things, they need to be taught how to see, how to grasp items, and how to turn on appliances.

I teach at a school that serves students with the most profound mental and physical disabilities.

Our school is very important to our community. Unfortunately, due to recent economic hardships, financial cuts have been made to not only our school but our entire community. The majority of the students within our school receive free or reduced lunches. I am an Intervention Specialist who serves students with physical, mental, and developmental disabilities. My students are medically fragile, confined to wheelchairs and are nonverbal. Due to their disabilities and medical state they are homebound and not able to come to school. My students are between ages 10-18.

My Project

Some of my students have vision impairments and I do not have materials for them to use. I need materials that are small enough to fit in my bag yet will catch their attention and that they will be able to see. Some of my students have goals to track items and look towards objects. Purchasing these items: swirl mats, Plexiglass blocks, switches, and a fan, will allow me to provide my students with the opportunity to work on their goals and their educational needs. I will have objects and materials that will be eye catching and appealing to use with them.

My students love new materials and activities.

They love learning and trying their best. With these materials they will be able to learn. Having these materials will give me the opportunity to teach using a variety of materials. Please help!
