My Students

Picture me, picture you, picture this, and picture that, help me capture all of it with Hewlett-Packard digital cameras.

I teach highly energetic students with Autism in grades K-5 in a high-need community in Oklahoma.

On the Autism Spectrum, my students present with varying skills and abilities ranging from nonverbal to verbal, limited fine motor skills, sensory integration issues, and social skills concerns, to name a few.

My Project

Connections! This is our 2009-2010 school-wide theme and my students are learning all about connections. In the world of Autism, it is vital to learn about connections. Our students are often unaware of the people, things, and happenings surrounding them in their environment. This school year, we are focusing on teaching our students the concepts of making connections with others, recognizing the importance of the objects we come in contact with everyday, and becoming more aware of and involved in the different activities in their environment. This spring my students are joining the photography club and I am the new co-teacher. I am excited about the connections the students will make through the world of photography. Putting differences aside and focusing on abilities, my students along with their general education peers will work together to develop life long skills. These include, but are not limited to communicating, sharing, self expression, making choices, and photography skills.

By funding this project, you will give our students with Autism the opportunity to participate in the photography club, making connections with their general education peers.

Additionally, the HP cameras, supplies, and the skills they develop will continue to be used weekly in our classroom for the students to create their own story books. These books will allow them to express their knowledge using written language, photographs, pictures, and more. Thank you for connecting with us!
