We are a dynamic classroom of readers and thinkers who engage in literature study. I teach seventh grade students to think and make meaning with the books that we read. We are a rural, K-8 public school with an 85% low socio-economic population of white, black, and Hispanic students (928 total).

Because of the low socio-economic status of our students, many cannot buy books. Therefore, I like to provide those opportunities for them. They love to read, and I want to engage them in reading as a thinking activity and as enjoyment so they will continue to read and be lifelong learners.

We need a classroom set (30) copies of the title "When You Reach Me", winner of the 2009 Newberry Award for Young Adult Fiction for literature study. We engage in literature discussion groups by reading together in small groups, discussing what we read, and coming together as a whole group to talk about what we learned and still want to know. It's dynamic and it's engaging!

Your help will ensure that my students have rich, engaging literary choices to spark and maintain interest in reading for life.
