This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I hate poetry!! I am constantly hearing students say this in my 6th grade language arts classroom. Students often have an opinion of poetry from elementary school---which is usually negative. I teach in a high needs school in which resources are always in need. Our textbooks offer a few poems but none that are interesting to kids.

Our school does not have any books that are just dedicated to poems for kids.

Our textbook has a few poems but they have no connection with students.

My Project

In order to get my kids interested, I need poems that they can relate to. Something that will make them laugh or cry. A poem that makes them realize how great poetry really can be!
