My Students

"OK class, let's do this together." I look at my students as they get out their journals or turn their chairs to focus on my lesson. I keep my fingers crossed that the ancient overhead projector and my not so innovative technology use will keep them engaged for long enough for me to dazzle them!

They are a sweet group of 21 second graders who are growing up in a rural town in Maine.

The school I teach in is a Title One school and has many students who are on free or reduced lunch. We are faced with many challenges, as many schools are, during this economically difficult time. The added pressure is that students "power down" to come to school. The technology that we have to teach them with is ancient and often times not overly interesting to these kids who have regular access to iPods, laptops, and hand held video games.

My Project

Currently I do have a way to project things, I have an "overhead projector". You remember it don't you? Many adults recall this piece of equipment in their classrooms when they were young. Well, times have changed and I would love to have an LCD projector for my classroom. Having an LCD projector will allow me to use a computer to enhance my lessons with videos, Power Points, websites, and other tools on line. I'd also have the ability to project other on line pages and resources that match their individual workbooks or practice papers onto a dry erase board in my classroom for us to work on together. Imagine their excitement when they can use a dry erase marker and the projected lesson to review what we've discussed. Or watch a video I've pulled from the Internet to help them understand the world around them. This LCD projector will have universal use across all subject areas.

With your help in funding this LCD projector for my classroom I will be able to engage the students and teach them using the growing world of technology around them.

An LCD projector available to me and my students throughout the day would provide me with unlimited possibilities to educate them.
