My students need a butterfly pavilion, an inflatable life cycle set, an insect puzzle and a variety of butterfly manipulatives to help them develop an understanding of how caterpillars become butterflies!

I am a pre-k teacher at a magnet school in upstate New York. In this amazing building one of our major goals as educators is to encourage our students to explore the wonders of science. Children at this age are naturally inquisitive and love to see what they are learning. This is why I am proposing a unit of study which would allow my Pre-K students the opportunity to participate in a life cycle experiment with butterflies. Through the purchase of live caterpillars, a 6 sided puzzle, a butterfly pavilion and an inflatable life cycle set, my students will be able to accomplish a number of skills. This scientific study will allow the children to track the stages of development, learn new vocabulary and gain a greater understanding about the fragility of life, as well as, the proper care for living things! By choosing to fund this proposal you will be providing my students this year, as well as future students, with an amazing opportunity to see and feel these experiences first hand!
