My students need an 8-pack of the Kids Discover Atoms series and a triple beam balance so that I can incorporate literacy into our study of Chemistry.

My students are seeking an engaging Chemistry experience! I teach 7th and 8th grade science at an arts-integrated charter school. We focus on connections among the subject areas as well as connections with the arts. We perform Chemistry, draw comics about immunity, and sing about circulation. Learning is fun and memorable!

Chemistry is a difficult concept to learn (and teach!) Oftentimes, I find that my 8th graders just have a hard time grasping what they can't visualize, and we lack literary resources to use for research. Computers are nice, but it's good to have books that help make connections. We also cannot effectively teach many concepts because we do not have a triple beam balance. We'd like to have one to use both in science and math classes across several grade levels!

If we had a triple beam balance and some reading materials related to the structure and function of atoms, our students could have an enhanced (and integrated) science and math experience in middle school. We could do more project that connect the two subjects, and kids could "see" atoms!

You will make it possible for our students to make important connections between science and math, and you will also spark an interest in Chemistry in students who may not otherwise be able to grasp difficult concepts that are invisible to the naked eye.
