Mr. Leeper's classroom raised $828

The Elementary Magazine Stand

My students need 25 subscriptions to Time For Kids Magazine, 30 subscriptions to WR News Senior Edition, Book Boxes, a Reading & Writing Storage Center and Learning Center Pocket Charts.

My students are in need of various media to help stimulate reading. Periodicals provide that stimulation! The students I teach are economically disadvantaged and cannot afford periodicals. I teach reading, language arts, and science in an urban elementary school.

The world is constantly changing and using information in many forms besides textbooks. The students occasionally get access to computers, but they also need periodicals on current events to help stimulate an interest in reading about science and everyday life. My students are diverse and would benefit from articles and activities from these magazines.

Children's magazines can create a vast assortment of learning experiences. The students in my class will appreciate the magazines and treasure their print and pictures that will open their minds to a world of information. The furniture will allow the classroom to look and feel like a magazine store. Our school does not have a media center or library. With the furniture, students can organize and utilize the space into a comfortable magazine stand.

You will make it possible for my students to gain insight and knowledge through their classroom magzine stand that the world still revolves and moves through pictures and printed word from periodicals obtained by your generosity. Students will be given "library cards" and be able to check out these materials from the classroom magazine stand. They will be taught how to use periodicals and respect borrowed materials.
