I am the director of the high school instrumental program at my school, and I have been slowly updating the antiquated equipment I found in the band room for the past 3 years. We have done pretty well in acquiring newer instruments for students to use, but one instrument that I have not been able to obtain is a new Sousaphone for the marching band.

Our district currently has 4 old Sousaphones that were purchased in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Unfortunately, the playing condition of these horns is close to nothing, and acquiring the necessary parts to repair them is challenging (and expensive!). Our marching program is growing in numbers every year, and the addition of a new Sousaphone would really enhance the low-end sound of the ensemble, not to mention update the look of the group.

The addition of a new Sousaphone in the band room has many positive aspects for students. This instrument can be used during marching band rehearsal, pep band, halftime shows, parades and competitions around the area. One of my current students is looking to study tuba in college and he will need some experience in performing on Sousaphone. This instrument will provide the necessary training for college-level playing.

It would mean a great deal to me if this project were funded in full. I try to make my classroom the most engaging and exciting possible, and a new instrument always excites students in performing (and it encourages others to try playing it for fun!). Our band program needs an updated look and this Sousaphone can certainly help with that - not to mention provide superior sound for the entire ensemble. I would certainly appreciate any donation that you make! Thank you very much for your support - my students and I thank you!
