I teach high school Spanish I and Spanish II in an International Baccalaureate (IB) School. My students are mostly sophomores, juniors and seniors, and I have special education as well as IB students in my classes. A large focus of my curriculum is the Hispanic culture, including the arts, foods, and home life. The classes that I teach help to prepare my students for college, as these classes are requirements for their high school graduation.

I have many creative ideas for my students, but lack the materials necessary for them to create beautiful displays of the Hispanic culture and arts.

In this project, I am asking for a cd player so I can play native Hispanic music for my students, as well as Spanish/English dictionaries. Along with this, I would like materials to foster creativity in my students. Items such as markers, poster board, construction paper, pencils, tissue paper, tape, scissors, glue sticks and sentence strips will allow them to create beautiful projects to help them to understand the culture, therefore the language.

You will help to ascertain that my students can create beautiful displays of Hispanic arts and culture using these wonderful materials. Unfortunately with the latest budget cuts, this year I was not given a budget to buy the supplies that my students need. You will make their learning more meaningful to them, and will help to ensure that they will succeed in my classes and eventually go to college.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
