I am a 7th/8th grade Social Studies teacher at a public inner city school in a high poverty neighborhood.

My students enjoy looking things up. If we talk about a certain historical person or event, they want to know more about what happened. Unfortunately I have limited computer access and reference materials.

I am asking for one laptop computer that can be used for research and to type up research papers. Having easier access to a computer and the Internet will allow my students to push the limits of their knowledge. Instead of just reading about the Holocaust, they can go online and take a virtual tour of Auschwitz. Instead of hearing the names of African nations, they can find out what life is like there by the people who live there. I have also requested a set of student atlas' so that research can take place off line as well.

Your help will take away a hurdle that stands between my students and world knowledge. These tools will have an immediate impact not only on my current students, but with all students to come as well. you will make it possible for my students to gain the knowledge they deserve.
