We love Math!! The students in my classes love math, but they desire a connection to technology and the real world. I teach Algebra I and Geometry in a Tennessee high school, where approximately one-third of my students are special ed and even more are low-income.

My students have diverse learning styles. I want to offer several methods of learning to access the students potential. Ideally, the students need movement and hands-on activities to make the connections needed for success. We work diligently on cross curriculum problems in chemistry, physics, and biology. However, these real world problems frustrate students because they need to see, touch, and hear the situation to understand and retain the information.

College preparation and job preparation is the focus in my classroom. I strive to connect my students to technology and the critical thinking of math in the "real" world . However, we need more resources to engage the interests of high school students. A flip camera is a critical piece of equipment for video presentations, online tutorials, and other projects. Online tutorials are only a side benefit of a flip camera. True interaction with the material takes place as students make video presentations and projects. These projects are the similar to the ones students will encounter when they enter college.
