I work in a public school district in Michigan, the district is a predominately blue-collar community. The medium income is below the state average. The students that I teach are more at risk and have greater needs than most students. I teach Earth Science and the challenge I face is to show the students how education really does relate to their every day life.

I would like to create real-world opportunities for my students to learn about the environment and how to make sure the world's resources will still be there when they grow up! To accomplish this, our school and students have decided to go green. My student have started to recycle all of our school's and families cans, bottles, paper, cell phones, printer cartridges, and items that can be "Terra-cycled".

My students are using cardboard boxes to go around and collect juice bags and other recycled materials. We would like to place a plastic recycle bin in each classroom and in the lunch rooms.
