Solving Equations with Dominoes!

My students need assorted dominoes.

"Hello! I teach 8th grade inclusion math, pre-algebra and Algebra 1 in a small community school in rural Tennessee. We are a school in need with very high levels of poverty. Our students are very caring and are known to accept others regardless of poverty, race, etc.

I recently discovered an interesting way to teach students how to solve equations through the use of dominoes. Out of all of the new standards that I have to teach, solving equations seems to be the hardest for my students to grasp and retain. Using dominoes should help get my students' attention and put a little fun back into learning how to solve complex equations.

In order to teach all levels of students, I need several different sets of dominoes and overhead dominoes. I need the six dot for my inclusion class and the 9 and 12 dot for my basic and advanced classes. The different colors will help my students distinguish between negative and positive numbers and the overhead dominoes will help me to teach the concept. By using these dominoes, I hope to hook students who are otherwise disengaged in learning.

Your generous donation will help my students become engaged in math again! With the help of www.donorschoose.org and generous donors like you, my students are getting the supplies they need and deserve. Your generous gift will not only help this class of students, but many more students in years to come!
