I teach a class of 6 special education teenagers who have autism. We attend a work study program daily which we combine with class work.

During the day my students do a lot of standing and walking. One of my students asked me if we can do some stretching and yoga (which he does in an after school program). Since we do not have a regular gym class I thought this would be a great idea. I found some yoga poses and stretches in a magazine so I have attempted this with my students. So for now we have been practicing this on a hard class room floor.

Due to my students disability they often display uncontrolled aggressive behavior along with varying degrees of frustration. I am asking for 8 yoga mats and a yoga kit which includes a yoga music CD. I feel these supplies will benefit my students by giving them overall health benefits due to the stretching and breathing activities and also relax them and help them focus on their class work and at their work site. I believe the yoga and relaxing music will help ease their daily frustrations and aggressions.

I believe, with your help, that my students will benefit mentally and physically by increasing their attention span at work and in the class and they will be able to use their breathing and relaxation techniques to ease their aggressive behaviors.
