We Need to Green Up Our Act!

My students need 2 copies each of 17 books and 2 DVDs about taking care of our environment.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am the school librarian at two elementary schools in Connecticut. Each one of my schools serves over 320 students, kindergarten through grade four.

The majority of my students come from low-income families and our school district is a priority school district. For many of these students this is the only library they are able to visit on a regular basis. My book budgets have been drastically reduced over the years, limiting the number of books I can purchase. Many of our books are out of date. This includes titles on such things as different forms of energy, pollution, recycling, the environment and global warming. There are a number of teachers in my schools who use the few titles we do have to promote Earth Day every April and one kindergarten teacher actually composts with her students on a daily basis.

I would really love to be able to provide current information, in the form of books and DVDs, to the students on these timely topics.

We will be putting our planet in the care of these children very soon and it would be a wonderful gift to them, and us, if they are inspired to become good stewards.
