A Chair To Be Used for More Than Sitting

My students need 25 seat sacks to help them with organizational skills.

Differences are what makes the world a special place. I am a special education (all day in class support) teacher in an urban school. The majority of our school children receive free or reduced lunches and appreciate any extras that come their way. I am lucky this year to be among the most vivacious kindergarteners that truly love to learn.

"When you are done, place your paper in the blue basket, get your crayons, go to the shelf and get your pink book, then turn to page 53." This may not be confusing for an adult, but imagine being only 5 years old and hearing all these directions. These are what the children in my inclusion kindergarten hear each day, they get lost after the first directive. Now think how much easier it would be if you heard this,"When you are done place your paper in the back of your chair and take out crayons and your pink book." With the seat sack I could eliminate wandering around the room, distractions, and the confusing steps on what to get from where. Everything would be right behind them and they would not have to leave their seats. Organization is a skill that everyone needs to learn and what a great way to assist in the learning process with these sacks!

I am always looking to teach my children as well as the regular education children another method of organization. I feel the "at your seat sacks" will help them leaps and bounds. These sacks fit over their chairs and have pouches on them to allow the child to place books, papers, crayons, pencils, etc in them. Multi-step directions to get their books would be eliminated. Confusion would be lessened in the room.

With your assistance, the children can and will learn more organizational skills that will travel with them for the rest of their lives. Unknown to them, "DonorsChoose.Org" will be the the ones to get them on them on the road to ORGANIZATION!
