My students need books about gardening, cooking and Dr. Seuss to celebrate the 50th Birthday of the book Green Eggs and Ham!

When they come to the library-2 classes, 40 kids, 7 years old, 2nd Grade-most students are learning English. Many are recent immigrants and read classic childrens' books for the first time.

This year, the Dr. Seuss book GREEN EGGS & HAM is 50 years old! To celebrate the library needs a new copy to read to the students. Other activities will include garden and cooking projects. Books on these topics are also in short supply!

After we read GREEN EGGS & HAM in the library, the 2nd grade classes will plan a 50th Birthday celebration! Students will use ideas from garden & cooking books. They will create decorations, gather fresh food from our school garden & prepare something "green" to eat. They will practice writing skills as they make birthday cards and write recipe cards.

Students will plan & create a literacy birthday for GREEN EGGS & HAM. Many immigrant children have not had the opportunity to enjoy the humorous Dr. Seuss story-now they will have the chance to create a memorable Happy 50th Birthday event!
