Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach second graders in a Title I school in California. My students are from various backgrounds and cultures. They are the "advanced" students in the grade and need challenging materials to help them improve their writing skills. My goal is for writing to be their favorite subject, and these inspiring materials will help me reach that goal!

My students want to write, but need materials! We are in a severe school budget crisis where funds are not available for "extras." Writing skills are so important for students, and they need to be inspired early in school! I want to hear my students say "I love writing!" as they write and publish their work this year and in the future.

These resources will give the students the inspiration they need to begin quality writing projects. There are prompts, journals, activities to practice writing skills, and even folders to teach them the writing process and organize their work. One of the hardest things for students is continue to improve their writing once they've done the first draft. These materials help students work through the entire writing process so that they can revise and edit and improve their work as they get it ready to publish. The materials cover several genres of writing that second graders need to know. I can see my students sharing their writing skills at school, at home, and hopefully in the community. I'd like to help them enter some writing contests, as well. All of these resources will help them really get the basics of writing into their system so they can expand their talents as they continue to write throughout their school career and hopefully beyond.

Your generous donations will make it possible for my students to become awesome authors, using skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. We can explore the "art" of the English language and create a portfolio of writing in several genres for the students to be proud of as they share it with others. My students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and I know they can all succeed with your help!
