Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help us spell! I teach 3rd grade in a hard to staff school in NYC. Most of my students live in the projects. My students spelling abilities range from Kindergarten to third grade. During the course of every school day, students are allotted only 20 minutes for "word work" time. Spelling is not given a heavy emphasis in our school curriculum and we are not given many supplies.

While students have textbooks to practice cutting and sorting their spelling words of the week, they do not have books where they actually write the words! My students love to study words and the way they are composed, but they don't have the supplies to push them to their full potential.

To help my students become spectacular spellers, our class needs books where students can practice writing and grammar skills. We need a vocabulary chart to display a "word of the week". We also need word games, such as Bananagrams, so that students can practice their skills in a fun way!

With your donation, you will make it possible for my eager learners to become super spellers! Your help will ensure that when they go out into the world, they will be able to represent themselves as educated individuals.
