I am a Title One teacher in an inner-city school. I work with the children in grades K-6 that need the most help academically. I also work with the teachers in the school and help them to recognize which areas need to be retaught and how best to teach them.

Many of our students struggle with the concepts of math. They know what 2 plus 3 is, but they don't know why. Understanding why things happen is vital for future growth. One way to help children grasp the concepts of math is to use manipulatives.

Children need to see, hear, and touch objects to help with their understanding. I would like to have Hands-On Standards and Math Manipulative kits for each teacher and grade-level in the building. These kits give teachers lessons that are connected to real-world problem solving and the items to complete the lessons.

I would like to begin using these kits with my students and teach the other teachers in the building how to use them also. With your help, I can reach out to the entire school and help over 450 children. Our students will be able to demonstrate mathematical thinking and prepare for their future!
