I teach in a high needs area in Nevada. I teach a group of wonderful students with autism in a middle school setting. This is my second year teaching in the self-contained setting.

This is the second year that my program has been in existence in my school and there is a significant lack of supplies in my classroom. I have slowly tried to purchase supplies and materials for the room, but am not able to do it myself. My students show a tremendous interest in reading and as much as I am excited to hear that, I am also sad at the same time. There is a lack of books in our classroom and the students do not have access to the quality books that they need to further their literary knowledge.

We need books on CD and a listening center in order for my students to continue their growth and knowledge in reading. There are some students in my class who have no basic concept of print and through the use of read-along books, I think they will begin to progress in their reading. By hearing what is read to them and making a connection between what they hear and what they see, I think they will succeed in unimaginable ways.

You will make it possible for my students to have access to quality materials and books that will increase their literary knowledge and skills. They will be able to pick up a book and get lost in an adventure with the characters that they choose.
