I'm a fifth grade teacher in Northern California. We are in need of a way for my students to document our weekly science investigations for later evaluation.

Each week the students are required to complete a science investigation. Typically, this involves observing some sort of biological phenomena or chemical reaction. Students then comment and record their findings to report to the class. These investigations could be so much more interactive and informative for the entire class if they could be recorded and shown to the class at a later date.

Over the years, I have used many different types of technology to document student work and progress. Unfortunately, many of the avenues we have pursued in the past have been either very expensive or time consuming when used. I propose the use of small flash memory based video cameras for student use. They are extremely easy to use and inexpensive. Students are always drawn to new technologies, why not use it to complete their studies in science.

You can make a difference in my classroom by providing funding to make our science investigations come to life for everyone in class to see. Pictures and sketches do convey their work, but not for everyone to see at one time. Think of the time saved and learning that will occur with the use of these small, lightweight, easy to use cameras.
