Give our comprehension a boost! I teach 25 third graders who want to boost their comprehension skills. The students range from special education to gifted. We need materials that will bring excitement to comprehension for all reading abilities.

Comprehension. Boring. NOT! Not with the exciting comprehension materials we need. Comprehension is one of the hardest skills to teach. Keeping students focused on what they are reading is one of the main hurdles to overcome. Students' minds often wonder when reading because the material is not interesting or exciting to them. We would love to have these supplies because they are a hands-on way to learn, reinforce, and extend our comprehension skills.

The Hot Dots Comprehension Cards comes with Hot Pens to use. The students will read a passage on the card. Then they will use the Hot Pen to touch the dot of the answer they think is correct. The pen makes a cute sound if they are correct. The cards work on all comprehension skills such as drawing conclusions, predicting outcomes, sequence, cause/effect, details, making inferences, and using context clues. The students will love the Mini Mysteries software, because they will have to read to solve mysteries. They will not even realize they are learning! Another exciting activity is the Mystery Readers. These come with spyglass decoders that students will use to check their own answers. The Read and Check Sliders will be an independent learning activity to boost vocabulary skills needed to improve comprehension. Students will read a passage and answer vocabulary questions based on the passage. They will be able to flip the card over to check their own answer. The president biography cards will work on nonfiction comprehension skills. After reading about a president, the students will complete a fun project about the president they read. What great activities to put in my centers.

Your help will ensure that my students boost their comprehension. With these materials, my students will not even realize they are learning comprehension skills because they will be having fun!
