Environmental Engineering in Kindergarten

My students need science journals, aquariums/terrariums with lids, gravel, water conditioner, plants, some additional living animals, and food.

We value life! I teach all subjects with science, engineering, mathematics, and literacy infused in all we do to 26 kindergarteners. Our public school is located in a high poverty area of a large urban district in Illinois.

We don't have the funds to continue our studies in environmental engineering. My students love the guppies, snails, bess beetles, and worms and will care for them but need the habitats to take them home. Most students have support from home and the organisms require little maintenance. They want to continue their studies and that needs to be encouraged.

The resources needed are science journals, aquariums/terrariums with lids, gravel, water conditioner, plants, some additional living animals, and food. Students would get an opportunity to use what they have learned to create a habitat to sustain the life of land and water animals we have been studying. Kindergarteners continue their studies laying a strong foundation to return in the fall to study other living animals and plants.
