I am a 5th grade teacher in South Dakota. My students come from a high needs area of the state. Our school is a Bureau of Indian Affairs Contract School.

My students have recently discovered that there are books out there that CAN interest them and be fun to read. Previously they would fight about reading because it was 1)hard for them and 2)boring. The students generally come in one to two years behind grade level, thus reading is frustrating to them. The students live in a unique area of the United States, thus the literature does not connect with them and is therefore boring to them.

We have finally found how we will make the reading growth needed to be successful sixth graders, and you can be a part of that growth. The books I am requesting are titles and genres that the STUDENTS have requested. They are overly interested in reading this literature and have asked for me to provide them with interesting and quality books. These books and series that I've requested are all on or above a 5th grade level and will push my students to a higher level of literacy, thus giving them better opportunities in the future.

With your donations you will enable my readers to read literature they are interested in reading, and hopefully carry their love of reading into future years.
